Seasonal Produce

Our veges are grown without any toxic chemicals. We focus on the health of our soil, to grow really healthy plants that are resilient and full of nutrients. We aim to use a diverse ecosystem that self regulates against pests, and any intervention is using using the most natural options that align with organic principals.

Eating in line with the seasons comes with so many benefits; natural diversity in your diet, different nutrients tend to be more abundant when we need them most. When veges are grown out of season they need far more inputs to grow and far more susceptible to disease. The need for synthetic inputs and toxic chemicals balloons in order to yield a crop. When we eat seasonally we get to experience so much joy and pleasure in what each season offers. It is a common excitement to relish the first juicy strawberries of the summer - and each season has it’s own magic treasures for us to enjoy that same pleasure year round. Foods that wouldn’t be our first pick in one season, become really enjoyable in their spotlight season.

We offer a boutique number of weekly vege boxes that run on a subscription basis of either 1 month (salad box) or 3 months (vege box). The vegetables are harvested super fresh, and filled with whatever is abundant and best at that time, and therefore tend to be slightly different each week. Your produce is packed into a rustic crate and handmade cotton bags, and each week you swap a crate for your new lot of fresh vegetables. Our Vege Boxes are collected from the property in Stratford, Taranaki.

When box numbers are filled, we run a wait-list where one of boxes can become available if people are away or there is surplus harvest.

 FAQs

  • As we only offer a limited amount of boxes, the subscriptions can fill up quickly. We have a waitlist you can join here which also gives you a chance to pick up a one-off box if people are away.

  • We ask for 1 weeks notice so we can redistribute your box - your payment would be stopped for this week. If less than a weeks notice is possible you can choose to have someone else collect your box on your behalf or we can attempt to redistribute. If we are unable to do so you would need to still cover the cost of the box.

  • Payments are required ahead of collection. You can choose to make these week to week or pay for the 3 months in full.

  • Payments can be made via online banking.

  • Generally speaking, no, unfortunately we plan & plant the harvest several months in advance and have grown specific numbers and crops to fill each box, and because we are a small scale garden there is not a tonne of flexibility.

However always ask and if we can accommodate we will.

  • If you have a real distaste for something certainly let us know and we can try our best to make an adjustment though this can’t be guaranteed. An example is some people really dislike coriander so we’d ensure we gave them a different herb option. But if you really dislike brocolli we can’t guarantee we will be able to swap that out each time.

  • Again as we plan and plant specifically for each box there may not always be surplus to add in. Once again, always ask and we will accommodate where we can

  • This is both joy and the challenge of seasonal eating. But the beauty of this day and age is inspiration is never far away - but we might need to be proactive! And having a few cookbooks at your fingertips helps. We love Sophie Stevens’ & River Cottage cookbooks for really seasonal recipes. But also sometimes we don’t need to be super creative - eating the veges in a basic form (think of what your parents or grandparents used to do) or finding 1 recipe that we can thrash week in week out can simplify. Sometimes we ourselves over complicate things by trying to cook 5 star meals each day of the week.

  • From time to time people are away and we will reditribute their box, join our waitlist to get notified if additional boxes come up.
