commune [noun]

1.   A close-knit community of people who share common interests.

Our Story

The Commune is run by sisters Min & Zoe and is a small scale market garden growing vegetables and flowers in Stratford, Taranaki. We do this alongside our husbands Ryan & Ricky with our children deeply involved. We want to connect our community to the beauty and abundance of nature, living with the seasons and reducing the chemicals in our homes.

Our journey began separately binging on Zach Bush podcasts where we become incredibly freaked out by the chemicals and destructive practices used in food production. And it quickly became clear we needed to take control of how our food was being grown. Access to organic produce was not particularly convenient with the local farmers market being 30mins away. So growing it ourselves became important.

Back in 2018 we came together and floated the concept of pooling our resources and our 2 families joining forces on one piece of land to share a common goal of producing our own food. And after a discussion deep into the night, The Commune was born!

The property is 2.5acres of vegetable gardens, flower gardens, orchards, chickens & sheep friends that we have started completely from scratch.

We grow our own vegetables year round which enables us to eat completely seasonally - something we believe is incredibly important for our wellbeing and allows us to delight in each seasons offerings.

Round 2 of Zach Bush podcasts showed us that community connection was vital and we have since opened the property with the hope to give access to high vibe food + non toxic produce grown in harmony with nature.

Our offerings are:

We want to help connect others to the beauty of nature, growing their own food without chemicals and enjoying the wholesome connection to our seasons.

We look forward to sharing in this with you soon x
